Former nominated senator Gloria Orwoba has bashed the Council of Governors (CoG), accusing it of hypocrisy in the case of Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga.
Speaking to a local radio station on Friday, October 24, 2025, Orwoba questioned why the CoG was quick to condemn Kahiga for his controversial remarks yet had failed to respond with similar urgency to other national tragedies.
Orwoba said the governors’ body appeared selective in its moral outrage and accused it of grandstanding over Kahiga’s predicament.
She described the council’s public condemnation as opportunistic, suggesting it reflected misplaced priorities rather than genuine concern for public decency or accountability.
“The Council of Governors seemed too excited about Mutahi’s case.

“I’ve never seen them speak out on serious issues, not about the Gen Z deaths, the Kware tragedy, or those who died at Kasarani during Raila’s body viewing. But this time, they did,” Orwoba.
Orwoba also criticised Governor Kahiga for his comments, describing them as reckless and unbecoming of a senior leader.

She said the remarks were in poor taste and exposed a worrying lack of maturity among some leaders in the country.
“It was in very bad taste for Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga to make those remarks. Some leaders have grown old but not wise. He got too excited and careless, and those words should never have crossed his mind,” Orwoba said.

The former senator added that the reaction from the Council of Governors reflected a deeper political hypocrisy, noting that many leaders only speak out when it serves their interests.
She argued that public institutions have lost their moral compass, often reacting based on political convenience rather than principles.

Orwoba further claimed that the controversy around Kahiga’s remarks was being used to advance political agendas, particularly in the wake of tensions between Mt. Kenya and Luo Nyanza regions.
“The direct beneficiaries of the rift between Mt. Kenya and Luo Nyanza are leaders like Gladys Wanga, who can now broker deals with President William Ruto, which is exactly what they’re doing right now,” Orwoba said.
She urged leaders to act with restraint and honesty, warning that exploiting sensitive national issues for political gain only deepens division and undermines public trust.
