Kaluma Boy Receives Admission In The East Africa University On A Work-Study Programme

East Africa University has officially admitted Othaya’s budding TikToker, Vincent Kaluma, popularly known as Kaluma Boy, marking a major milestone in his journey after months of public attention and anticipation.

The university, which is admitting him on a scholarship basis, then offered him a monthly stipend and an opportunity to work within the institution as part of its work-study programme.

Speaking during his admission on Monday, November 3, 2025, the Vice Chancellor, Christopher Mutembei, said that Bishop Kiengei had really followed up on his scholarship and that they were pleased that he had finally reported to begin his studies.

“I am Dr Christopher Mutembei, the Vice Chancellor of East Africa University. We are so happy today to welcome Kaluma Boy. We were notified about him by a bishop, and we are glad that he has finally been able to report,” the VC said.

He confirmed that the student has been admitted to pursue a Diploma in Business Information Technology.

He revealed that initially, Kaluma had expressed interest in studying digital marketing, but after receiving career guidance, he settled on the Business Information Technology course.

“He has been admitted to undertake a Diloma in Business Information Technology. Initially, he wanted to study Digital Marketing, but after receiving career guidance, he decided to take this course instead,” he added.

Mutembei then explained that the decision to admit and support him goes beyond just giving him an education.

He said the university believes the opportunity will empower him to change his own life and also influence other young people to take education seriously.

He stated that Kaluma Boy will receive a monthly stipend to help sustain him throughout his studies, and he will also take part in a work-study programme, where he will earn while learning through university projects.

“We are extremely happy for this, because it is not only about him; it is also an opportunity for him to help other youth. We will support him fully. He has been given a full scholarship along with a monthly stipend, and we will also engage him in a work-study programme, meaning he will study and work a little at the same time,” Mutembei said.

The Vice Chancellor noted that the institution plans to use Kaluma Boy’s story as an example to inspire other youth across the country.

He added that they will also involve him in outreach and awareness initiatives where he will help inform other young people about the various academic programmes offered at the institution.

“What we will be focusing on is him sharing information with others about the various courses we offer here,” he added.
