Kenyan gospel artist Guardian Angel and his wife Esther Musila have shared their choice to build a home and invest in Esther’s homeland, Ukambani.
The couple addressed the societal pressure for men to establish homes in their ancestral lands, labeling them outdated.
The gospel artiste dismissed critics who suggest his choice undermines cultural expectations.
"I do not need to answer to anyone, even the Constitution allows it, that you can go anywhere and buy property, even there are many people who get married here in Nairobi and invest here while they are not from here," he said.
Guardian Angel explained that he opted to build in his wife’s homeland because it is closer to Nairobi. He noted that traveling to his own homeland in Butere takes a whole day, making farming difficult, while it only takes him 45 minutes to reach Esther’s home.
"The reason why it’s easier for me is because home is like 45 minutes from here. It is easier for me to monitor the things that I am doing. I can even go sleep there and come back. It has nothing to do with nilienda kujenga kwa bibi," he shared.
