Woman Tricks Homa Bay Man to Travel to Nairobi, Leaves Him With Ksh466K Hotel Bill

Woman Tricks Homa Bay Man to Travel to Nairobi, Leaves Him With Ksh466K Hotel Bill

A man who travelled from Homa Bay County to Westlands in Nairobi County was arrested and arraigned in court on Friday for failing to pay a hotel bill amounting to Ksh466,965.

According to the charge the man claimed that he was the victim of deceptive tactics by a woman friend who promised to meet him at the hotel.

According to the man identified as LN, the woman informed him to book a hotel as she promised to pay the bill and join him later.

LN heeded the woman's request and travelled from his home in Homa Bay to meet the woman in Nairobi.

After making reservations at a city hotel, he stayed for 12 days from December 30, 2023, and incurred a bill worth Ksh466,965.

When the time lapsed, LN informed the hotel management that he could not afford to pay the amount after the woman failed to show up.

He was arrested and taken into custody at Parklands Police Station. LN was charged with using fraudulent means to obtain credit amounting to Ksh466,965 from the hotel and falsely pretending that he was in a position to pay - a charge he has disputed.

During court proceedings on Friday, prosecutor Judy Koech informed Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe that the man kept giving excuses that he was unable to pay the bill.

The Homa Bay man applied for bail on the grounds that he was not a flight risk and requested the judge for more time to settle the bill.

The Magistrate ordered that he be released on a Ksh400,000 bond with one surety.

Unable to pay the bond, LN was remanded at Industrial Area Prison for two weeks until court proceedings resume.
