Love fades, but friendship... friendship has been known to withstand the harshest of weathers. Hence why prolific screen/playwriter and digital content creator Abel Mutua is convinced it is the glue that holds romantic relationships together. 

The father of one advised young couples to ensure the person they claim to be in love with is actually their best friend in every sense of that word before settling down with them.

Highlighting that friendship has its own sweetness and in the moments when love fails or is just not enough, your best friend always comes through for you even if it is by simply walking through that moment with you.

Hence why your romantic partner should also be your friend. 

"Before you commit to, you know... being in a relationship make sure that that person is your best friend first," started off the iconic actor turned movie director/producer.

Abel went on to stress the importance of this arguing that people hugely underate the difference a strong sense of friendship brings to the relationship. 

"Lazima akuwe rafiki wako wa dhati kwanza before muanze kukimbizana kwa kitanda (they must be your friend first, like your best, close friend before you guys start thinking about rushing with each other to the bed) Because when love fades away friendship is the glue that holds you two together," Abel deeply shared. 

Reminding guys that no matter how in love they are when starting out 10, 15 years down the line feelings change, some things die down and the fiery romance of the honeymoon stage that drove them initially burns out. Not meaning that the relationship is now doomed. 

On the contrary, these are the moments that shape a couple. Because if you truly care for each other as friends, then you'll pass the test of time. 

"Let no one lie to you that you will get married and 5, 10, 15 years down the line the two of you will still be doing lovey dovey things like still accompanying each other to the bathroom. Nopes, let me tell you it ends.

Abel is married to talent manager/budding digital content creator and influencer Judy Nyawira. The two have been together for a little over a decade and share a teenage daughter famously referred to as Mumbus.
