The Democracy for Citizens’ Party (DCP) Leader Rigathi Gachagua’s bid to occupy the house on the hill is still on course, Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala has said.
Speaking exclusively to a local TV station on Thursday, November 13, 2025, Malala announced that Gachagua is the presidential candidate for the DCP.
He said that even with that position, Gachagua and other top figures in the united opposition will sit and agree on a single candidate to face President William Ruto.
Malala dismissed claims that DCP had abandoned its earlier commitments in Malava, making it clear that the party still backs Seth Panyako.
He said, “Hapa Malava hatujaondokea mtu yeyote, bado tunasupport Seth Panyako.”
He then clarified DCP’s position on the 2027 race, stating, “Hatuwezi sema kwa sababu ya ile strategy yetu ya give and take, hatuwezi sema Gachagua haendi kusimama urais.
“Mimi kama naibu kiranja wa DCP, the official stand ya DCP ni kwamba Rigathi Gachagua is our presidential candidate as DCP.”
Malala accused Ruto’s allies of spreading misinformation, saying the narrative about Gachagua demanding half of government positions from Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is fake.

“Ile mambo ya 50%, ni propaganda ambayo inauzwa na wale watu wa William Ruto. Wameogopa. Wameona ya kwamba William Ruto atakua a one-term president,” he claimed.
Malala clarifies the cold war with Matiang’i
Asked whether there was a brewing cold war between the United Opposition and former Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang’i, Malala dismissed the rumours. He said Matiang’i was simply organising the affairs of his Jubilee Party.
According to Malala, “Hakuna vita yoyote kati ya sisi na Fred Matiang’i. Matiang’i bado ukiona hakuji kwa mikutano yetu ni kwa sababu anapanga mikakati ya chama chake cha Jubilee. Sisi tuko pamoja na Fred Matiang’i, ako na sisi.”
He added that leaders allied to Matiang’i, including Kibagendi and Senator Richard Onyoka, will on Friday, November 14, 2025, join the united opposition rally in Malava to support their candidate.
Malala insisted the movement remains intact, united, and ready for the 2027 contest.
