
Corruption: EACC recovers KSh12 Million, USD13,000 in cash at Governor Wamatangi’s residence

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has announced the seizure of Ksh12 million during a raid at Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi's residence.
In a statement dated Tuesday, April 15, EACC also revealed that its detectives seized USD 13,000 (Ksh1.7 million).
The commission alleged that the money may have been proceeds from corruption.
Wamatangi is among the senior county officials being investigated over irregular payments of Ksh1.5 billion.

"This operation forms part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial and procurement malpractices within the County Government of Kiambu, focusing on allegations of conflict of interest, procurement irregularities, and abuse of office against the senior officials in the awarding of contract for the Supply, Delivery, Installation, Testing, Training, Commissioning, and Support Services of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System," EACC stated.

"The contract, valued at KES 230 million, was awarded to M/s Filtronic International Limited during the 2022/2023 financial year. Also allegations that County Government officials engaged in trading with the County and received payments totaling Ksh1.5 billion through Irregular procurement processes and fictitious supplies, in violation of public finance management and procurement laws."
Besides the raid at Wamatangi's residence, raids were also conducted in the house of Peter Njoroge Ndegwa, the County Secretary.
Also being investigated are Nancy Njeri Kirumba - CEC Finance, Salome Muthoni Wainaina - CEC Lands, Housing, William Kinyanjui Kimani -Chief Officer Finance, Phyllis Wanjiru Muiruri - Director, Supply chain and Henry Mburu Waweru - Director, Revenue.
Paul Kibe Wangari, the Clerical Officer and Bernard Kabaiku Theuri, the director of M/s Filtronic International Limited, were also listed among those being investigated.
