Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has told President William Ruto to avoid appointing Cabinet Secretaries with pride as it was in his previous cabinet.
Speaking in Elgeyo Marakwet, Gachagua noted that the new CSs should place Kenyans’ interest first to uplift the country’s economy.
Further, he explained that they should avoid engaging in politics and focus on aiding the president in achieving his campaign promises.
“Tunaunga wewe mkono kwa ile hatua umechukua ya kuvunja baraza ya waziri uunde upya. Utafute waziri ambao watakusaidia kufanya kazi. Mawaziri ambao hawana kiburi na hawaingii mambo ya siasa. Watakuwa na wewe kukusaidia pamoja na sisi ndo tusongeshe Kenya yetu mbele,” he said.
“We assure you of our support so that you can get a good team that will create efficiency, harmony, put the people of Kenya before their personal interests na hapo tunakuhakikishia tunakuunga mkono.”
He praised President Ruto for listening to the public and dissolving his cabinet. He noted that the CSs who will be appointed should address Kenyans with respect and humility.
“Because you shown pragmatism, all that is remaining now is to put a good team in place and the rest will flow automatically. In the decisions you have made, you have exhibited a lot of humility. As president, to say you have listened to the people of Kenya, that is great humility. Wale watapewa nafasi, ongelesha Kenya kwa heshima. Tuwanyenyekee Wakenya kwa sababu ni wao ndo wametupea kazi.”
DP Gachagua alongside Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi were not affected in the latest purge by the president in his efforts to restore trust in his regime.
From dissolving his cabinet, dropping the Finance Bill 2024 to implementing austerity measures, President Ruto has yielded to the people’s call for efficiency in government.
On the other hand, Kenyans online have called out the president for sparing the Prime CS who holds an office that is unconstitutional. They have since noted that every coin spent should be accounted for to enhance transparency by public officers.
