The regulator on Tuesday announced Nyaoma’s tenure begins in January after his appointment by President William Ruto in November 2024.
“Mr. Nyaoma returns to CBK after having had a long and distinguished career at the Bank. He joined CBK in August 1988, and served in various senior positions including the Financial Markets, Banking Services, and Internal Audit Departments, culminating in his role as the Director of the Bank Supervision Department,” said CBK in a statement.
After appointment by President Ruto, Nyaoma’s name was forwarded to the National Assembly Finance Committee for vetting.
The Kuria Kimani-led committee approved Nyaoma’s appointment, giving way for his approval by the Senate.
With at 36 year stint at CBK, Nyaoma started as a management trainee in 1988, and rose to the rank of Director of Supervision before shortly leaving.
“It is an honour and a pleasure to welcome him back to the Central Bank of Kenya,” CBK Governor Kamau Thugge said in Tuesday.
Nyaoma will serve alongside Susan Koech, who is also a CBK Deputy Governor.
