KPA to Auction Top Firms and Institutions Goods Over Port Overstay

KPA to Auction Top Firms and Institutions Goods Over Port Overstay

Access Bank, Cambridge University Press, Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital, Serena Hotel, DHL, Bowmans, G4S, the Marketing Society of Kenya, Hair Manufacturing, Sai Office Supplies, and Orpower are among several companies and individuals whose imported goods are set to be auctioned by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) over port overstay.

The cargo, which has remained uncollected beyond the legally stipulated period, is now scheduled for public auction.

“Pursuant to the provisions of the East African Community Customs Management Act, the following goods which have remained unentered for a period exceeding the prescribed time shall be sold by public auction,” According to the Kenya Gazette dated June 13, 2025.

The affected goods range from industrial machinery and electronics to medical equipment and office supplies, pointing to significant delays in cargo clearance even among top-tier institutions.

Officials from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) say the auction is aimed at clearing port congestion and recovering revenue tied up in duties and storage fees.

The auction will be conducted on an “as-is, where-is” basis, with buyers encouraged to inspect items beforehand.

The full auction catalogue and bidding procedures are available at the KRA’s Customs and Border Control Department.

The inclusion of such high-profile entities has raised questions about internal procurement delays, possible financial challenges, and administrative lapses within both the public and private sectors.
