A bouncing baby boy was born to an Ohio couple from an embryo that has been frozen for more than 30 years, setting a new record of being the World’s oldest embryo to result to live birth.

Lindsey, 35, and Tim Pierce, 34, became parents to Thaddeus Daniel Pierce through embryo adoption, a journey they describe as surreal.

Lindsey told MIT Technology Review that her family thought “it is like .something from a sci-fi movie.”

The story began in 1994 when Linda Archerd, 62, underwent IVF with her then-husband, resulting in four embryos.

One of those embryos led to the birth of their daughter, Thaddeus’s biological sister 30, now with her own 10-year-old daughter and the remaining three embryos were preserved and remained unused for decades.

Even after separating from her husband, Linda chose not to discard or donate them to science, instead preserving their potential for life.

Years later, the Pierces were matched with one of those long-preserved embryos through the National Embryo Donation Center.

After seven years of trying to start a family, they finally welcomed their miracle baby into the world, an event that surpassed the previous known record for embryo longevity, which was held by twins born in 2022, from embryos frozen in 1992.
