Nakuru MP Samuel Arama Caught on Camera Giving Handouts to Attendees of State House Meeting

A video of Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama has stirred outrage online after the legislator was filmed distributing cash to individuals who had attended a recent meeting at State House.

The viral clip elicited a fierce public debate about political handouts and the ethics of leadership amid Kenya's economic hardships.

In the video, MP Arama, dressed in a dark blue coat, is seen addressing a crowd before summoning one of his aides to hand over a parcel full of cash before announcing, “Mdosi amesema niwanunulie lunch. Kila mtu ni KSh10,000. Accountability. Kama uliharikwa, ni KSh10,000. Mtu asiende aseme alipata pesa kidogo.”

The footage was reportedly taken shortly after grassroots leaders from Nakuru County visited President William Ruto at State House in Nairobi to discuss community challenges and local development issues.

Following the meeting, Arama was seen issuing what he claimed to be KSh500,000 in total, allocating KSh10,000 per attendee, which he termed as “lunch money.”

However, the move has provoked a wave of criticism online, especially in light of the current economic crisis affecting millions of Kenyans.

Many users questioned the logic of such lavish "lunch" allowances when schools, hospitals, and other critical sectors are underfunded.

@bangalysiga remarked, “The only language poor people understand.”

Jose Mwas lamented, “Alafu watoto wetu hawafanyi national exam ati hakuna pesa!”

Margaretndungu49 commented tearfully, “Alafu wamama wamefungiwa hosi juu ya kushindwa kulipa hospital bill.”

@Mich.patriot254 added, “There is money for handouts but none for schools and hospitals. Shame.”

This incident comes amid earlier explosive claims by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who alleged that two containers, one at State House and another at Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s Karen residence, are being used to store billions in cash used to bribe political figures.

He linked a KSh76 billion discrepancy in the national budget to this alleged scheme, saying the funds were being used to buy loyalty among leaders.
