Murang’a Women Representative Betty Maina has joyfully thanked President William Ruto for extending his generosity to the family of popular Kikuyu Benga musician Kamande Wa Kioi.
Through a post on her Facebook page on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, the outspoken United Democratic Alliance (UDA) lawmaker praised the President for coming through for Kamande Wa Kioi’s wife, who was hospitalised at Nairobi West Hospital.
Betty said the family and the Social Health Authority (SHA) had managed to raise Ksh1.5M but were left stranded with a balance of Ksh2M that became a heavy burden for the family.
“Mama Kioi, wife to Kamande Wa Kioi, was unwell but has recovered at Nairobi West, a private hospital. SHA and the family were able to pay over Ksh1.5M, leaving a balance of Ksh2M,” Betty Maina said.

“Special thanks to His Excellency the President, Dr William Ruto. I reached out to him yesterday on behalf of the family, and today he gave me Ksh 2 million, which I have given to the family. Be blessed, H.E. Good health be your portion, Mama Kioi.”
Her message has attracted warm reactions online, with many Kenyans hailing the President’s act of kindness and others urging the government to strengthen the SHA to support families in similar situations.
President William Ruto had earlier, on Friday, September 19, 2025, described SHA as the real deal for Kenyans seeking quality healthcare, whether for acute, chronic, or emergency treatment.
Speaking during the launch of the SHA Sponsorship Programme at State House, Nairobi, the President announced that his administration would cover the cost of SHA insurance for 2.2 million Kenyans.
“We are paying for 558,000 households, translating to 2.2 million Kenyans. We have over 6,000 hospitals where Kenyans can access medical services, and this is anchored in law,” President Ruto said.
He added that medical equipment worth Ksh 220 billion would be supplied to all counties and that the digitisation of Level 2 and 3 hospitals would be completed by November.
Launched in October 2024 to replace the National Health Insurance Fund, SHA remains one of the President’s key legacy projects aimed at ensuring all Kenyans have access to affordable and reliable healthcare.
