President Ruto Set To Attend The UN World Summit For Social Development In Doha, Qatar

President William Ruto, on the evening of Monday, November 3, 2025, left the country for Doha, Qatar, to attend the UN Second World Summit for Social Development and to hold bilateral meetings with international leaders.

 

In a statement issued by State House on the same day, the government said the President’s trip aims to engage in discussions on social development issues, including poverty reduction, decent work, and social inclusion.

 

“President William Ruto departs this evening for Doha, Qatar, to strengthen economic partnerships, attract investment, and participate in the UN Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2), which will focus on poverty reduction, decent work, and social inclusion,” the statement read in part.

 

It added that the summit provides a platform for world leaders to deliberate on global strategies for improving living standards and addressing social challenges.

 

During his visit, President Ruto is scheduled to meet His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, as well as other world leaders, to discuss matters relating to trade, economic cooperation, and international development initiatives.

 

“While in Qatar, President Ruto will conclude key investment agreements to modernise Kenya’s infrastructure and advance flagship energy and transport projects. He will hold talks with several world leaders, including His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, and strategic development initiatives,” it added.

 

The government further noted that the President will deliver statements on behalf of Kenya and the Africa Group, calling for fair global financial systems, strengthened multilateral cooperation, and increased African representation in international decision-making bodies.

Additionally, the statement highlighted that President Ruto will engage with Qatari business leaders and officials to discuss opportunities for Kenyan youth through bilateral labour agreements and skills development initiatives.

 

“Building on these engagements, the President will advance expanded Qatari investment and strategic partnerships in agriculture, particularly food security and climate-smart farming, as well as in renewable energy, green hydrogen, health, tourism, transport, and logistics. He will also engage Qatari business leaders to broaden public-private partnerships,” the statement added.

 

The State House spokesperson, Hussein Mohamed, noted that the visit demonstrates Kenya’s continued participation in global social and economic forums and reflects the government’s commitment to fostering partnerships that advance development objectives.

 

“At the summit, the President will deliver statements on behalf of Kenya and the Africa Group, calling for fair global financial systems, universal access to essential services, strengthened multilateral cooperation, and reforms that enhance African representation at global organisations and advance shared prosperity,” the statement said.
