The prime suspect in the brutal murders of two patients at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has been apprehended.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect, identified as Kennedy Kalombotole, was arrested in connection with the killing of Edward Maingi Ndegwa.
“Kalombotole’s arrest follows the brutal murder of Edward Maingi Ndegwa on July 17, 2025. Ndegwa was a patient admitted in Ward 7B, Group C (Male), on July 11, 2025,” the DCI stated.
Police also revealed that Kalombotole is the prime suspect in the murder of Gilbert Kinyua Muthoni, who was killed in Ward 7C in February this year.
“Following the incident, a case file was compiled and submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). However, after review, the ODPP directed the Investigating Officer to conduct further inquiries to strengthen the prosecution’s case,” the DCI noted.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Kennedy Kalombotole was admitted to the facility on December 1, 2024.
Further reports reveal that a cleaner conducting routine checks on Thursday noticed blood oozing from the patient’s neck.

At precisely 2 p.m. on Thursday, inside Ward 7B at KNH, a disturbing discovery was made—Ndegwa was found dead.
The DCI added that upon arriving at the scene, investigators found slippers with blood trails leading from Ndegwa’s bedside to a nearby toilet and later to a side room where the suspect was admitted.
“In the room, investigators recovered a pair of blue slippers and a blood-stained bedsheet,” the DCI said.
A knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was found wrapped in gloves and has been sent to the National Forensic Laboratory for analysis.
“Kalombotole is currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment,” police stated.
