Popular Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Sacco Super Metro has announced plans to launch a taxi line to tap the expanding market.
In a notice shared on social media on Monday, October 13, the matatu sacco announced that the cab-hailing service called SuperGo taxis would be launched soon.
"SuperGo Taxi Coming Soon!!!" Super Metro announced on its official Facebook page, sharing a banner bearing the planned design of the new taxis.
"When the ride's on time, the mood stays prime. We move joyfully," the announcement read.
However, the company did not announce the exact date of the launch of the new taxis, although it was received with enthusiasm from its loyal customers.
The company that owns over 500 buses, transporting about 170,000 Kenyans to and out of the capital every day, has created a loyal base, which the company hopes to tap with their latest product.
This comes at a time when the most popular digital cab-hailing companies are wrestling with drivers over their pricing, amid a rapidly expanding market.
In a study in 2019, it was determined that 86 per cent of Nairobi residents owned a smartphone, while 58 per cent reported having used ride-hailing services.
This boom has contributed to the sprouting of new cab-hailing services in the country, as the majority of Nairobi's residents are often looking for more convenient transportation that is cheaper, with Super Metro being the latest to do so.
With its already established customer base in the country, Super Metro is the only matatu sacco so far that has transitioned to the digital taxi business.

Although its most popular service is its matatu business from 18 stages in the capital, Super Metro has also ventured into other logistics services like parcel and courier services in Nairobi, charter services and even an insurance agency.
Currently, it has stages at Nairobi CBD, Makongeni, Thika, Juja, Roysambu, Westlands, Kikuyu, Mfangano, Bus Station, Malaa, Kitengela, Kabiria, Ngong, Juja Farm, Regen, Kinoo, Mfangano and Kahawa West.
It also has a long-distance service, the Super Metro Executive Coach plying the Nairobi - Kampala route.
