Zari Hassan, a former singer turned businesswoman, has offered advice to musicians from her native Uganda.
In a viral video, she urged Ugandan musicians to elevate their game and aim for international recognition. Zari suggested that they move away from the Kidandali music genre, which incorporates native sounds and samples from Uganda.
"Ugandans need to explore what South Africans, Nigerians, and Jamaicans are doing differently," Zari remarked in the video. "By studying the music scenes of these countries and various genres, Ugandan musicians can adapt and innovate to enhance their music."
She stressed the importance of diversifying Ugandan music to appeal to a broader audience beyond the country's borders.
According to Zari, sticking solely to the Kidandali style limits the potential for Ugandan music to gain international traction.
Zari, who began her career as a singer, is currently in Uganda, where she was warmly welcomed by her husband Shakib Cham
. Cham greeted her with a bouquet of flowers and a heartfelt note expressing his delight at her return:
"Hi Zari, Your presence shines so bright just like you. It is always amazing when you come, Welcome back my queen."
