Kenya, Malaysia Sign Bilateral Trade Agreements
President William Ruto and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim signed a series of trade agreements on Monday 24 2025 that eliminate trade barriers.
The breakthrough came during Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's visit to State House, marking 60 years of Kenya-Malaysia diplomatic relations.
President William Ruto announced the landmark bilateral agreement would open doors for producers of tea, coffee, flowers, avocados, titanium ores and beef.
"The removal of these tariffs is especially significant given the state of current trade," President Ruto stated during the signing ceremony.

Kenya currently exports tea, coffee, flowers, avocados, titanium ores and beef to Malaysia while importing edible oils, chemical products, electronics, agricultural chemicals and rubber.
The deal includes an air service agreement to boost connectivity between Nairobi and Kuala Lumpur, making travel easier for traders and tourists.
Both leaders signed a letter of intent to twin Nairobi and Kuala Lumpur, that aim to enhance cooperation on urban planning, technology and service delivery.
According to President William Ruto, an MOU(Memorandum Of Understanding) between Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and its Malaysian counterpart will deepen private sector partnerships.
"These instruments mark the beginning of broader and deeper strategic partnerships for mutual benefit," the President said.
President Ruto highlighted that Malaysia would explore collaborations in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), research, innovation and education, and that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will hold a meeting with Kenyan education stakeholders.
The agreement also targets expansion of digital technology and high-tech manufacturing sectors.
President William Ruto reaffirmed that the deal aims to balance trade relations, with Kenya seeking to increase exports while reducing its import bill from Malaysia.
