Edwin Sifuna: Why I Won't Resign From ODM SG Position

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has maintained that he has no intention of resigning from his position as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, July 22, he said he still believes in the values of the party and in the trust placed in its leadership by members across the country.
Sifuna stated that should he make the decision to vacate the office, he will admit it and publicly announce the move.
“The reason I will not resign yet is because I have not given up yet, I have not given up on members of the ODM. There is still belief and trust within the ranks of the party that Raila Odinga knows what is right for the people and that he will do the right thing.
“On the day that I give up, I will tell you, I will say it publicly that I have lost the battle to rescue this party and to bring it back to where it was," he said.

"There is a lot of confusion. I have told my party leader that there was a time when it was very easy to be the SG of ODM. What we agreed is that you can compromise on tactics, but you can never compromise on your values.
“I want to apologize to members of ODM for all the confusion we as a leadership have caused because it is very difficult right now to discern the position of ODM on major issues," he said.
Notably, this comes months after Mumias East MP Peter Salasya urged Sifuna to resign from his position as the ODM Secretary General.

In a statement via X on Sunday, April 13, he said Sifuna cannot oppose the government, yet the ODM party is supporting it.
Salasya warned Senator Sifuna that he would be doomed if he continued to stay in the Raila-led party.
“Edwin Sifuna, my brother from Western, come back home! Step down as ODM SG. You can’t oppose a government your party sleeps with. ODM’s days are fading, and so are yours if you stay,” he said.
