Legendary Taarab artist Khadija Kopa has revealed she had no prior knowledge of her daughter Zuchu’s traditional Muslim wedding to Diamond Platnumz until after the ceremony had already taken place.

Speaking in a phone interview with Tanzanian radio station Bongo FM, Kopa said neither she nor Zuchu’s biological father was invited to the Nikkah ceremony.

“No, I didn’t attend at all. None of us had any idea it was happening. They kept everything very secret and only told us once it was already done. They chose not to hold a public wedding,” she said in Kiswahili.

Addressing her ex-husband’s absence, the veteran singer explained that she and Zuchu’s father are no longer together, and the couple had mutually agreed that Zuchu would be handed over by an elder of her choice when the time came.

Despite being excluded from the event, Khadija expressed her support and happiness for the couple, emphasizing the importance of choosing marriage over cohabitation.

“When someone gets married, we give thanks. Alhamdulillah. We don’t want our children to live in sin. Young people make mistakes. We’ve all been young, had relationships, and gone through those stages. But we thank God because it’s better for them to get married and live in peace. Even though they did it quietly, we are still grateful. Alhamdulillah. I pray that God blesses them and gives them good children who will honor and respect them,” she said.

The wedding was confirmed on June 1, 2025, when Diamond Platnumz posted a series of photos on social media alongside Zuchu, both dressed in traditional Nikkah attire and flanked by elders, signaling that their union had been officially formalized.

The surprise announcement shocked fans and stirred a mix of reactions online. While some congratulated the couple, others questioned the sincerity of the union, especially in light of past rumors suggesting that Diamond had allegedly divorced Zuchu three times before.

Although Zuchu has not shared the wedding photos on her social media platforms, she updated her Instagram bio to read “Mrs. Nasibu,” further confirming the marriage.
