Popular Kenyan digital series The Weekly Show, co-hosted by comedian Oga Obinna and viral content creator Dem Wa Facebook , was unexpectedly discontinued late last year.
Now, after months of silence and speculation, both creators have finally shed light on what really led to the show's abrupt end in November 2024.
Launched in 2023, The Weekly Show quickly gained a massive following for the duo’s humorous takes on current affairs.
Their on-screen chemistry made them a hit with fans, propelling Dem Wa Facebook into greater fame. However, when the show was abruptly placed “on pause until further notice,” widespread speculation of a bitter fallout immediately followed.

Dem wa Facebook during an interview with Alex Mwakideu said,"Sielewi kitu ilihappen...for me nilijuwa tutawork for a long time".This statement explains that she does not know the reason as to why the show ended.
The Mental Toll and Creative Tension
Obinna explained in a YouTube video that the intense online negativity directed toward his co-host became unbearable.
“There was a lot of trolling and pressure, especially directed at Bebii [Dem Wa Facebook],” Obinna said. “It became mentally and emotionally draining for both of us. So we decided to pause.”

While Obinna denies any malicious personal rift between the two, an action he took immediately after the show's pause caused further controversy: He deleted all episodes of The Weekly Show that featured Dem Wa Facebook.
The Content Ownership Controversy
Obinna justified the deletion, stating it was a strategic decision to protect both parties and avoid misleading narratives.
“People were watching old episodes and then asking whether Dem Wa Facebook was still part of the show, or if she was being paid. To avoid confusion, I took down the content,” he clarified. He maintains that the entire concept, platform, and production of The Weekly Show were always under his ownership and control.

“People were watching old episodes and then asking whether Dem Wa Facebook was still part of the show, or if she was being paid.
To avoid confusion, I took down the content.” The incident has reignited a fierce debate about content ownership and intellectual property within Kenya’s rapidly growing creator economy.
Many fans are now calling for clearer contractual communication and transparency in celebrity collaborations.
Obinna has since rebranded the show with a new co-host, Kartelo, and a slightly different format, while Dem Wa Facebook has confirmed she is pursuing her own independent projects.
Although their collaboration has ended, both stars remain highly active in the entertainment scene, charting their paths separately.
