Revealed: Why Betty Bayo Never Wanted to be Photographed & Posted Online While Sick

Gospel musician Shiru wa GP, a close friend of the late Betty Bayo, has spoken emotionally about Bayo’s strict final wishes regarding her health.

Shiru wa GP was speaking at Blue Springs Hotel along Thika Road, where friends, family, and industry figures are currently gathered for funeral preparations.

Bayo, who passed away on November 10, 2025, had imposed a strict ban on discussing her health publicly and absolutely forbade anyone from photographing her while ill or in death.

A Request for Respect

Shiru revealed that Bayo explicitly requested that she not allow anyone to take pictures of her. This desire for privacy stemmed from Bayo's weariness with public scrutiny.

Bayo told Shiru:

"I have fought enough battles on social media. I have been insulted enough, if only you can make sure I don’t become the topic of discussion on social media…”

According to Shiru, Bayo wanted to maintain her respect until her final moments. The late musician asked her friends not to allow anyone to photograph her "in this destination(referring to the hospital/sick state).

Shiru wa GP stressed the importance of respecting this wish. She noted that money from YouTube or Facebook will eventually run out, but the honour given to

someone's mother will last.

“Even in Betty’s room, I was very vigilant, I almost fought with someone while insisting that she not be photographed. She wanted to be respected up to her last moment,” Shiru added.

Background to the Health Battle

The gathering at Blue Springs includes musicians and coordinators handling the funeral arrangements. The meeting follows a chaotic period during Bayo's final days.

Bayo’s severe health crisis began in the early hours of the morning, around 2:10 AM. She woke up, feeling a lack of oxygen, and collapsed while bleeding. She had been bleeding internally in her head, which was the serious nature of her disease.

When admitted to the hospital, Bayo initially needed repeated blood transfusions and was heard repeating, "I want blood".

However, her condition worsened when she suffered a stroke that affected one side of her body. It was at this point that doctors confirmed she was bleeding in the head and had a clot.

Later, Bayo was diagnosed with what was referred to as acute myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). Shiru noted that this illness seemed to have been hiding in her body for around three years. MDS is a condition that can cause fatigue and headaches.

The Cost of Care

Friends rallied quickly to support Bayo’s medical needs. Shiru recounted paying Ksh 260,000 upfront so Bayo could be admitted to the initial hospital.

When Bayo was transferred to Kenyatta Hospital for chemotherapy treatment, the financial pressures escalated.

Upon transfer, the bill left behind was Ksh 600,000. This rapidly increased to Ksh 800,000 within two hours.

The current budget for the entire funeral preparation is KSh 5 million.
